Partnering with Heart Lake Baptist Church and Youth Unlimited
Dr. Seuss says, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
A NEW PATH
Heart Lake Baptist Church has been in the Brampton community of Heart Lake since 1977. Youth Unlimited (YU) has worked with youth of the GTA for over 75 years and recently has moved toward marketplace initiatives, including launching social enterprises. Both ministries are registered charities and share core values of social involvement, young leadership development and being transformed in Jesus Christ. Heartbeat bikes is a platform to engage and employ youth to help youth to overcome employment barriers.
A NEW VENTURE
This new social venture will assist youth to overcome employment barriers through intentional life skills development, on-the-job training, and paid employment in a bike repair store setting. Volunteers and mentors will support and motivate the youth through coaching, training, conflict resolution and advocacy. The goal of the bike shop is to help the youth find permanent, meaningful jobs at wages that not only allow them to sustain themselves but also give them a chance to advance in their new career path.
Heartbeat Bikes will provide rebuilt, reliable freshly serviced bikes to people in our community. Bikes will be restored and repaired at various price points to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to purchase or repair their bicycle at our community shop. This will provide employment and on the job training for youth. We plan to host community events including mechanic training, community drop ins, and safety training.
As Dr. Seuss inspires us, your assistance will help things get a “whole, awful lot better” for our communities and the next generation.
A NEW OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for volunteers and always accept donations of any bicycle related items i.e., complete bikes, parts, tools, accessories, and safety gear.
