July 1st, 2018 – Happy Birthday Canada! How often do you pause and give thanks for the great country of ours? Oh, are there issues? Are there concerns about where our country is headed? Yes, I realize it is not all rosy. There are troubling things when it comes to political leadership at all levels – municipal, provincial and federal.
However, 1 Timothy 2:1-3 states:
“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Saviour God wants us to live.” (The Message)
Therefore, as followers of Jesus Christ we are instructed to pray for those in authority, those in leadership; even when we disagree with them. And what is the end purpose? So we can live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence so that all (not some) “people will come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved” (vs.4)
Prayer can help change the world but the Apostle Paul goes on to say we need to be active, living our lives out in such a holy manner that people can see Jesus in us. So, let’s keep praying for our country and our leaders but also doing our part to love our neighbors and show Christ’s love to all peoples.
